  11. --- Introduction ---
  12. Quick Bridge 95 is a utility to assist 
  13. in extracting data from Quicken for Windows
  14.  and inserting that data automatically into
  15. Microsoft Excel or Word. Once the transactions 
  16. (accounts) for which data is to be collected 
  17. have been specified in Quick Bridge, the
  18. program will extract the data and insert it 
  19. automatically into one of the above programs via
  20. OLE. Data can also be pasted from Quick Bridge
  21. to other apps, but with more user intervention. 
  22. Note that pasting data in this way does not 
  23. facilitate a semi-automatic or automatic method
  24. of updating the data.

  26. This utility will be useful to those who use their 
  27. Quicken for Windows data to create budgets and/or 
  28. reports. After setting up the accounts and specifying 
  29. which application the data is to be inserted into, future
  30. execution of Quick Bridge will load the current balances, 
  31. start the external application and update the balances 
  32. without further user intervention.

  35. ---Installation---
  36. To install Quick Bridge:
  37.     1. Unzip the downloaded file into a temporary directory
  38.         2. From the WIndows 95 Run command, execute "setup.exe"
  39.        the temporary directory.
  40.         3. To run Quick Bridge, double-click its icon from its Windows program group.

  42. ***NOTE***

  44. If you receive OLESYSERROR messages when starting Quick Bridge, you may not have
  45. some required OLE support files. Run setup again, select CUSTOM install, and
  46. check both options. The OLE support files will then be installed to your
  47. /Windows/System directory.

  49. ---License---
  50. This program is provided as shareware. You may use the 
  51. program for a period of thirty days to test its useful-
  52. ness and accuracy. If, after thirty days, you decide to
  53. keep the program, you are obligated to register it.
  54. Register.doc & Register.txt(for those without MS-Word)
  55. are included in the installation directory. Print one and
  56. mail with your check or money order (US funds only) as
  57. instructed in those files.
  58. The program may not be re-engineered, reverse-engineered,
  59. nor modified in any way without the express consent of the
  60. author. You may make copies of the program for distribution
  61. to others provided you do not charge a fee for any purpose
  62. other than to cover the cost of the media and shipping, and
  63. you include ALL of the original files with the copies.

  65. --- System Requirements ---
  66. Quick Bridge 95 requres the Windows 95 operating system.
  67. For automatic importation of data, Microsoft Excel version
  68. 5.0 or higher, or Microsoft Word version 2.0 or higher is
  69. required.
  70. Minimum system memory requirements are 8 meg RAM.

  73. ---Compatability---
  74. Quick Bridge has been tested with the Excel(v. 7.0a) & Word 
  75. versions supplied in Microsoft Office 95 as well as Microsoft
  76. Office 97 (Excel v 8.0). It is possible that other applications
  77. may work with Quick Bridge, but none have been tested.

  90. This program is provided without warranty. Use of this program 
  91. is at your own risk. The author makes no statement of warranty 
  92. nor gaurantee of affect. The program has been tested extensively 
  93. under the Windows 95 environment with the above-mentioned external 
  94. applications and has shown no ill effects of its use. However, the 
  95. environment in which it was tested will likely not display all 
  96. possible conditions by which erroneous results can be returned. 
  97. Therefore, the user assumes all responsibility for the use of this 
  98. program. It is stongly recommended the user create a backup of all 
  99. data files prior to using the program. There is no code contained 
  100. within that would normally change any Quicken data files. However, 
  101. as stated, the program has not been tested under every possible 
  102. condition. Results should be confirmed through an audit of the return 
  103. values before relying upon them.

  106. --- Known Problems ---
  107. On some systems, the Office 97 version of Excel does not fully unload itself
  108. from memory. If you have started and ended previous sessions of Excel since
  109. your last reboot, you may encounter errors when Quick Bridge tries to access
  110. Excel. If this happens, hit "Countrol+Alt+Del" to bring up the "Close Program"
  111. dialog. Click on every occurence of Excel in the list, then the END TASK button.
  112. Once all of the Excel sessions have ended, Quick Bridge should be able to access
  113. a new copy of an Excel session.

  115. We have tried not to duplicate files in the distribution pack that might ordinarily
  116. already be on the user's system. Occasionally, there will be a machine that doesn't
  117. have the ordinary files. If you encounter a "DLL not found" error, email me and
  118. I will get the missing file to you (if we have distribution rights).

  120. --- Updates / Changes ---
  121. QuickB.zip    Original Quick Bridge package
  122. QuickB_f.zip    No program changes. Added the common files missing from some users'
  123.         machines, as well as a Quick Bridge DLL that got left out of the
  124.         original setup package.
  125. QuickB1.01    Changes the way Quick Bridge handles the INI file. Some users were
  126.         concerned about the IO error that occurred when Quick Bridge ran
  127.         for the first time. Although a harmless error, it was causing some
  128.         confusion. Also fixes OLE automation errors.
